BEAR Scotland, acting as the operating company for Transport Scotland, is set to carry out a major project to upgrade the street lighting columns on the A82 Achintore Road in Fort William, starting from Monday, 10 November. The works are expected to be completed by Friday, 13 March 2026.
The works will be carried out between Monday and Friday, operating during off-peak hours from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. The primary goals of the upgrade, according to BEAR Scotland, are to enhance safety, energy efficiency, and aesthetics, while simultaneously reducing long-term maintenance costs and supporting environmental goals.
To ensure the safety of both the workforce and the travelling public, temporary traffic lights will be in place during the working hours each day. These temporary controls will be removed at the end of each shift to minimise disruption.
Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained throughout the full duration of the works.
Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, thanked the community in advance: "Our teams will carry out these works quickly, with safety as our top priority. We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements."
