Construction work is expected to start to develop five new residential properties for children and young people in Kirkcaldy next year.
Fife Council has agreed to invest £6.45 million in the scheme.
The development, located on the Westmill site, will include:
• A new four-bed bungalow to replace the existing Glenmar Children's Home
• A seven-bed bungalow for young people with additional needs
• Three single-occupancy bungalows for children requiring individual accommodation.
The new homes will support up to 12 children and young people and provide space for supporting staff. The project brings together two previously separate phases into a single development, funded through the council’s Capital Plan and existing budgets.
Councillor David Ross, Convener of the Cabinet Committee, said: "This is a significant step forward in improving the quality of care and accommodation for some of our most vulnerable young people. These purpose-built homes will allow children to stay closer to their families and communities, while receiving the support they need in a safe and nurturing environment."
