A fund designed to help Council tenants through financial hardship has achieved impressive results in its first year.

The Rent Assistance Fund, launched on 1 April 2024, was created to support tenants who, through no fault of their own, are struggling to keep up with rent payments.

Councillor Miranda Radley, Convener of the Communities, Housing and Public Protection Committee, said: "We are committed to supporting our tenants, especially during challenging times.
The success of this fund in its pilot year has allowed us to provide essential support, and we hope to build on this moving forward."

Vice-Convener Councillor Dell Henrickson added: "This fund has made a real difference for our tenants, offering a vital lifeline during difficult times and ensuring they get the support they need."

From 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025, the fund provided direct assistance to more than 498 households. Impressively, 91% of those supported have remained free of new rent arrears, significantly reducing the risk of eviction and helping to maintain stable housing.
