Cala Launches 'The Foundry' On Glasgow's Historic Weir Pumps Site

A new residential development, The Foundry, has officially launched in Glasgow's Southside, transforming the site of the former Holm Foundry, still widely known locally as "Weirs pumps".

Appointed by Cala Homes (West), Savills has begun marketing the new scheme, which fuses the site's rich industrial heritage with modern, sustainable living.

The Holm Foundry was established by engineering pioneers George and James Weir in the late 19th century as G&J Weir, becoming a centre for innovation that produced everything from steam pumps to aircraft engines.

Today, The Foundry aims to reimagine this legacy for new homeowners, offering a collection of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, as well as premium two- and three-bedroom penthouses. Every home includes Cala's high specification finish, complete with private outdoor space, lift access, and access to landscaped communal and residents' gardens. Allocated parking is available for all two- and three-bedroom properties and penthouses.

In a nod to the site's engineering tradition, the development incorporates fully electric, ground-source heat pump technology for renewable heating, reflecting Cala's commitment to sustainable design.

Pamela Scott of Savills Glasgow highlighted the development's unique appeal: "The Foundry is a truly exciting launch for Glasgow's Southside. It's rare to find a development that combines such a rich industrial heritage with forward-thinking design and green technology. Buyers are responding to the lifestyle and legacy this site offers—it's a place with real character and a proud history."

The development is positioned to offer a highly connected lifestyle, being just a short walk from Cathcart train station and close to the shops and cafés on Holmlea Road. The surrounding neighbourhoods of Shawlands, Langside, and Mount Florida also offer abundant culture and green space.

Interest has been strong, with a number of homes already sold from the first release. Appointments to discuss the available homes can be booked through Savills' new Glasgow office at CADWorks, West Campbell Street.
