Planning permission has been submitted to transform a row of derelict B-Listed townhouses on Edinburgh's prominent Princes Street and Hanover Street into 24 high-quality serviced apartments and the new office headquarters for Destiny Scotland.
Luxury serviced apartment developer and operator Destiny Scotland has appointed conservation specialists Studio LBA as the lead consultant and architect for the sensitive project. The historic buildings, situated within Edinburgh's UNESCO World Heritage Site, have been vacant and in a "semi-derelict" internal state for several decades.
The newly submitted proposals will supersede a previous consent for 30 apartments. The latest design retains the first-floor commercial space as an office for Destiny Scotland and modifies the roof level.
The project is designed to inject vibrancy into the iconic street while bringing the historic buildings into a viable contemporary use. The few remaining original features will be sensitively restored, and modern materials—including thermal upgrades and new windows—will be integrated to combat heat loss.
Destiny Scotland currently manages 15 properties across Edinburgh, and this development is intended to be its flagship location, offering guests panoramic views of Edinburgh's historic Old Town and the Castle.
John Cameron, Conservation Architect and Associate at Studio LBA, commented that the restoration presents an "important opportunity to conserve and protect the historic character of these properties, ensuring that their legacy... is safeguarded for future generations."
Stuart Moffat, Managing Director at Destiny Scotland Group, added that Studio LBA has the "exact expertise to lead this sympathetic conservation project, enhancing and modernising the building into luxury serviced apartments."
