The National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) has appointed Neil Mantle, Group Director of Manufacturing Engineering and Materials at Rolls-Royce, to its Board.

An experienced manufacturing executive, Mr Mantle brings extensive global expertise in engineering, manufacturing, strategy, and execution, along with a strong commitment to skills development and supply chain growth across the aerospace, defence, nuclear, and power systems sectors.

Background and Impact

Mr Mantle is the former Chair of the Advisory Board for the University of Strathclyde's Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC), which is the founding centre of NMIS. He also currently leads Rolls-Royce's strategic partnership with the University and serves on the UK Government's Made Smarter Commission.

He expressed his honour at joining the NMIS Board, noting the Institute's "vital role in helping industry respond to challenges such as sustainability, productivity, and skills."

Professor Sir Jim McDonald GBE, Chair of the NMIS Board, said Mr Mantle's "exceptional track record" and senior industrial experience "will strengthen the NMIS Board as we continue to deliver business and economic impact, supporting Scotland's ambition to be recognised worldwide for advanced manufacturing."

NMIS, which is operated by the University of Strathclyde and is part of the UK's High Value Manufacturing (HVM) Catapult, aims to help businesses of all sizes to innovate, grow, and transition to a low-carbon, digitally enabled future.
