Liebherr Delivers 1,000th LTM 1090-4.2 Crane

Liebherr has delivered the 1,000th LTM 1090-4.2 mobile crane, with the milestone machine being handed over to Global Crane Services, a crane and heavy haulage company based in Scotland.

This latest acquisition brings the total number of this model in the company's fleet to five.

The LTM 1090-4.2, a 90-tonne crane, was unveiled in 2017 and has been praised as an economical all-rounder on four axles, featuring a 60-metre-long telescopic boom—10 metres longer than its predecessor.

Frank McAlonan, Technical and Operations Director, said: "It's a model that's truly proven its capabilities... we're very happy with them."

Charlie Lowe, Head of Operations, highlighted the crane's versatility, covering a wide range of applications from timber construction and finished parts assembly to port handling and working in the oil and gas industry.

For Global Crane Services, the crane offers significant cost-saving benefits. Since mobile cranes can be driven on public roads with axle loads of up to 16.5 tonnes in the United Kingdom, the LTM 1090-4.2 can carry its full 22.5 tonnes of ballast to the site without needing an additional transport vehicle. Lowe explained: "For us, this is especially cost-effective and the setup time is consequently minimal."

Global Crane Services is a subsidiary of Global Port Services, part of the Inverness and Aberdeen-based Global Energy Group. The Group's fleet of around 70 mobile cranes, nearly all from Liebherr, includes three large lattice boom cranes mainly used for wind power projects, reflecting the company's transition toward renewable energies.
