Moray Council has submitted a planning application for a new Forres Academy, representing a major step forward in upgrading the town's education facilities.
The proposal involves replacing the existing secondary school with a modern, three-storey building covering 12,126m². The new academy will be designed to accommodate 1,120 secondary pupils and will include dedicated facilities for students with additional support needs, alongside areas for community use.
The plans also incorporate new outdoor sports facilities, landscaping, car parking, and a dedicated bus drop-off area.
If approved, the new academy will be constructed adjacent to Applegrove Primary School, supporting a shared 5–18 campus model. This model aims to provide both primary and secondary pupils with opportunities to learn and interact in a modern, well-equipped environment, while also simplifying community access to the facilities.
Subject to securing planning approval, the project will be delivered by Hub North Scotland Ltd, with Balfour Beatty appointed as the main contractor.
