Angus Council Set To Approve £21.6m Infrastructure Investment

Angus Council is set to approve a new programme of investment projects worth £21.6 million in public infrastructure across the region. The projects, funded by the new Angus Public Infrastructure Fund (APIF), will be considered at the council’s Policy and Resource Committee meeting on Tuesday, 23 September. The initiative aims to address the pressing needs of council-owned infrastructure, support long-term sustainability and economic growth, and combat the effects of climate change.

The APIF was created with a £1.0 million addition to the loan charges budget, which will finance the £21.6m investment over the next four financial years, from 2025/26 to 2028/29. The fund will be prioritised based on factors including the condition and urgency of the project, economic and community impact, and carbon saving.

Angus Council Leader Cllr George Meechan said that the council had worked hard to identify areas where spending was most urgently required. He stated that the investment would help prevent an "even higher spend at some future date" and focused on the learning estate, transport infrastructure, and flood prevention. The council's assets are valued at over £1bn, with roads alone estimated at approximately £1.6bn.

The proposed projects span a wide range of public infrastructure, including roads, schools, parks, flood protection, and sports and cultural facilities. The council plans to use the APIF to replace ageing infrastructure, address climate change impacts, and support its net-zero carbon ambitions.
