Taylor Wimpey West Scotland has been granted planning permission by East Renfrewshire Council to deliver 125 new homes in Barrhead, which will form a key part of the Barrhead South Masterplan.
The housebuilder has also confirmed that pre-construction work is already underway for the new development, named Springhill Gardens.
As part of its environmental strategy, the development will be gas-free—a first for the company in East Renfrewshire. The new homes will be equipped with air-source heat pumps, which use around 75 per cent environmental energy to provide heating and hot water. The development will also include other energy-saving elements, such as wastewater heat recovery and EV charging points, along with measures to enhance biodiversity, including bug hotels and hedgehog highways.
The Springhill Gardens development will feature a variety of three, four, and five-bedroom homes. It is a vital component of the wider Barrhead South Masterplan, which also includes a new railway station, upgrades to transport systems, and enhancements to the Dams to Darnley Country Park. The development will also provide 8.5 per cent of entry-level homes for sale in accordance with council planning policy.
Martin Findlay, Technical Director at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said he was "delighted" to have secured consent, which allows the company to expand its range of new homes. He added that it is a "significant step" for the business to be building a gas-free development with sustainable features. The first new homes are planned to be launched for sale early next year.
