ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) is celebrating a major milestone in its journey to build the future of energy, with its first Onshore Operational Technician apprentices officially completing their programme.

The company is also welcoming the next wave of apprentices to its team, who will train to become fully qualified electrical fitters.

Ben and Denver, the company's first apprentices, have completed their four-year programme and are now fully qualified technicians. They were joined by fellow participants Nadir Mouffok and Dean Tyrrell, who both shared what the programme meant to them. Nadir noted gaining "valuable skills and knowledge through a hands-on approach," while Dean highlighted the chance to develop his "interpersonal skills."

A new group of apprentices began their training on 1 September 2025. Harry Officer, Robbie Brown, Ben Marshall, and Kyle Muirhead have joined the new three-year Fitting Craft Apprenticeship and will be training to become qualified electrical fitters within the company's O&M Field Ops ENOPS team. Harry said he was attracted to working for SPR because renewable energy is going to have a "massive impact in the future," while Robbie was drawn to the programme's "reputation for high-quality training and its commitment to renewable energy and sustainability."

The apprenticeship programme starts with three months at college, followed by six months of intensive training, and then hands-on field experience. Apprentices also earn industry-recognised qualifications, including City & Guilds certifications and an HNC in Electrical Engineering.
