A new, cutting-edge leisure centre, built to Passivhaus standards, has officially opened its doors in Blairgowrie, delivering vastly improved facilities for Perthshire.

The Blairgowrie Recreation Centre opened to the public on Friday, 29 August, and was built by BAM, with design by architects Holmes Miller. The centre features a 25-metre swimming pool with a movable floor, sports halls, a fitness suite, a dance studio, and a physical education classroom.

Jim Ward, BAM Regional Director for Scotland, emphasised the company's dedication to excellence: "This centre sets a new benchmark for leisure facilities in the UK. By implementing Passivhaus principles in a swimming pool, we have significantly reduced energy demand in one of the most energy-intensive building types. The outcome is a high-quality facility that the community can enjoy, with lower running costs and long-term sustainability."

Councillor Grant Laing, leader of Perth and Kinross Council, said: "This is a significant day for the residents of Blairgowrie and the wider Eastern Perthshire area. The new Blairgowrie Recreation Centre offers state-of-the-art facilities for the community and, of course, for the pupils at Blairgowrie High School."

Gary Bushnell, Chief Executive of hub East Central Scotland, said: "We are proud to have collaborated with Perth and Kinross Council and BAM to deliver the new Blairgowrie Recreation Centre and are delighted to see it open to the public.
