A new report highlights the success of Dundee City Council's community benefits policy, which has generated significant employment, apprenticeship, and work experience opportunities through major construction projects.
The report, which councillors will consider at a meeting on Monday, 1 September, shows that a wide-ranging building programme resulted in nearly £55 million in local spending during 2024/25 and used 73% local labour.
In 2024/25, the policy delivered 38 work experience placements and 63 employment opportunities. There were also 29 project-initiated apprenticeships and a further 68 existing apprenticeships recorded. The report also notes that the council paid 95% of its invoices within 30 days.
Councillor Mark Flynn, the city governance convener, said the report "outlines the efforts the city council and its partners are making to support local businesses." He added that this work has a positive "knock-on effect for individuals and communities." The council's recently launched Community Wealth Building Strategy is expected to further boost the local economy and support jobs in the future.
