SP Energy Networks is holding a series of drop-in events in September to share its final proposals for a new overhead power line route between Galashiels and Eccles. The project will consolidate two existing overhead lines, which are nearing the end of their operational life, into one new route.

The final plan was developed using feedback from the local community and stakeholders from previous consultations. The proposed 132kV overhead line replacement project will see 56km of wires carried on wood poles and steel lattice towers replaced with a single 30km line of steel lattice towers. This will also result in the removal of approximately 120 poles and pylons, and 26km of overhead lines.

The new route is expected to improve the resilience and reliability of the electricity supply in the area.

Marlene Marimbe, Environmental Planning lead for the project, said: "We've listened closely to the feedback and have adapted our plans for this preferred route to take these on board whilst always balancing this feedback with our responsibility to provide a resilient and reliable electricity network. We are grateful to everyone who has shared their views and hope local people will take the time to come along and see our final plan."

The drop-in events will be held at the following locations:

• Tuesday, 2 September, 2pm to 7pm: Gordon Village Hall, Main St, Gordon

• Wednesday, 3 September, 2pm to 7pm: Leitholm Village Hall, Main St, Leitholm

• Thursday, 4 September, 2pm to 7pm: Langlee Community Centre, Marigold Dr, Galashiels
