SGN has completed a £1 million project to upgrade key gas infrastructure in Stranraer.
The work focused on modernising the Stranraer Offtake, a facility that reduces high-pressure gas from the national network before it enters the local distribution network.
The upgrade included the installation of a new, garage-sized instrument kiosk, a complex operation that required a large crane and months of careful planning. The investment significantly enhances the site's monitoring capabilities, improving operational safety and the accuracy of real-time data on gas flow, pressure, and temperature.
According to Adam Hyslop, SGN's Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer, the upgrades are part of a long-term investment to ensure the network remains "safe, secure, resilient and fit for the future." He added that with more accurate data, engineers can respond faster to issues, reducing the risk of supply interruptions.
Mr Hyslop said the investment "better helps us serve the people of Stranraer" and is about "creating a network that's easier to maintain and built to last."
