As National Allotments Week gets underway, Fife Council is celebrating the vital role that allotments and community growing spaces play in supporting health, wellbeing, and sustainability.
The council recently approved funding of £320,000 in community grants and training to help more people access land to grow their own food, learn new skills, and connect with their communities. This investment is part of the council’s ambitious Allotment and Community Growing Strategy 2024–2029. The strategy aligns with the wider Food4Fife action plan and will be supported by a new team.
Councillor Linda Erskine, Spokesperson for Communities, said: "Allotments and community growing spaces are about so much more than just growing food – they’re places where people come together, learn from each other, and build stronger, healthier communities."
To mark the week, which runs from 11–17 August, council officers have been visiting allotment and community growing sites across Fife. These visits will be showcased on the council’s social media channels to highlight the passion and creativity of local growers.
