Parents and carers are being advised that the Golffields playpark in Irvine will remain temporarily closed while investigations are carried out into a suspected subsidence issue affecting part of the site.
Specialist contractors are expected to begin work during the week starting Monday, 11 August, to determine the cause of the ground movement in a small section of the park.
As a precautionary measure, play equipment has already been removed and the area fenced off to ensure public safety. The closure will allow for a full excavation of the affected section before any necessary remediation works are planned and carried out.
Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Green Environment and Economy, said: "The wellbeing of our young people is paramount so it’s important we establish why a small section of the park has been affected by what appears to be subsidence. It is our intention to reinstate the play facility when we are certain the issue has been resolved and there is no risk to visitors. In the meantime, I would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding."
The Council has not yet confirmed a timeline for reopening but has assured the community that safety remains the top priority.
