Aberdeen To Host SPE Offshore Europe

Aberdeen has been named as the host city for the SPE Offshore Europe (OE25) conference and exhibition, running from Tuesday, 2 September to Friday, 5 September 2025.

Tens of thousands of attendees from around the world are expected to gather in the energy capital of Europe during this critical period for the offshore energies industry, as it transitions to a new integrated-energy approach.

David Whitehouse, SPE Offshore Europe 2025 Executive Committee Chair and Chief Executive of Offshore Energies UK (OEUK), emphasised the significance of the event. "It is a momentous time for the UK's oil and gas industry. Decisions made in the run up to OE25, will not only shape the North Sea's future but also profoundly impact jobs, communities, and companies across Europe," he stated. "OE25 will be a rallying point for industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to collaborate on solutions that will show how oil and gas can meet current demand while helping build the low-carbon systems in the years to come."

The opening ceremony on 2 September will be introduced by David Whitehouse, alongside the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Councillor David Cameron, and 2025 SPE President, Olivier Houzé. The 90-minute opening plenary will feature addresses from Norway's Minister for Climate and the Environment, Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, Louise Kingham, Senior VP Europe and Head of Country at bp, and a UK government representative, all speaking under the conference theme 'Unlocking Europe's Potential in Offshore Energy'.

A subsequent panel debate will include Juergen Maier, Chair, GB Energy; John Evans, Chief Executive Officer, Subsea 7; Luciano Vasques, Chief Executive Officer, Ithaca; and Zoe Barnes, Partner at Everoze, Chair of the UK Floating Wind Taskforce and Non-Executive Director, Offshore Wind Growth Partnership. The debate will be moderated by Louise Stewart, Director of External Relations and Commercial Affairs at OEUK.

Russell Borthwick, Chief Executive of Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce (AGCC) and a member of the OE25 Executive Committee, called for a strong industry presence. "Despite many headwinds, the North Sea can be at the UK's industrial future as demonstrated by the recent paper submitted to the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) by OPITO, OEUK and AGCC," he said, urging industry to "turn up in force at OE25 as a show of strength to policymakers that we are collectively up for it."

The conference programme will feature twelve strategic panel sessions, eighteen technical sessions, and two fireside chats. Topics will cover global perspectives, energy security, the future energy mix, decarbonisation, safety, hydrogen, Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), funding, supply chain, and the future of oil and gas. Petrobras will also present two market-focused sessions. Full details and speakers are available on the Offshore Europe website.

For the first time, two half-day Talent Investment & Diversity Events (TIDE) will be held daily to support career development and enhance leadership skills through workshops, fireside chats, and panel sessions.

The OE25 exhibition will span three halls, featuring an Energy Transition Theatre, Offshore Wind Hub and Theatre, North Sea Futures Theatre, Digitalisation Zone, Future Talent Hub, and a First Time Exhibitor Zone.

SPE Offshore Europe is organised by The Offshore Europe Partnership, a joint venture between RX Global (Reed Exhibitions) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). It is free to attend, and registration is now open.

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce is also organising several 'fringe' events, including a Business Breakfast for 500 industry leaders at the P&J Live conference venue on the first day, and an exclusive AGCC x Holyrood Sources event later that day, sponsored by Shepherd and Wedderburn, titled 'The Future of Energy'. This special live recording of the Holyrood Sources podcast will feature senior political and business figures debating the sector's future.
