SSEN Transmission Sponsors All Three Teams At International Island Games

Construction News Image
SSEN Transmission has announced its comprehensive sponsorship of athletes from Team Orkney, Team Shetland, and Team Western Isles, making it the only company to back all three Scottish teams participating in the 2025 International Island Games. With approximately 500 athletes from Scotland's island communities preparing for the biennial event, this sponsorship underscores a significant commitment to grassroots sport and community development.

The International Island Games, a celebration of sport, culture, and island identity, will bring together teams from across the globe in Orkney from 12-18 July 2025. SSEN Transmission's support will directly contribute to covering essential costs such as travel, accommodation, training, and kit, enabling athletes to focus fully on their competition and camaraderie as they host participants from around the world.

Ross Donaldson, Team Manager for Team Orkney 2025, expressed gratitude, stating: “Anticipation is building here for the arrival of the Island Games, which promises to be an exciting moment for Orkney and especially for our Team Orkney athletes who have been training hard in preparation. We're delighted that SSEN Transmission is sponsoring the team and grateful for its support that is helping us take part in this year's competition." He also noted SSEN Transmission's efforts to reduce staff presence in Orkney during the Games week to free up local resources.

Lesley Hutchison, Chair of Shetland Island Games Association, commented: “We're pleased to have SSEN Transmission backing Team Shetland at this year's Island Games in Orkney. We're incredibly grateful for the company's sponsorship, which helps with our costs so that our competitors can focus more on their training and preparations." Iain 'GG' Campbell, Western Isles Team Manager, added that the funding is "helping young people across the Western Isles to access this elite standard multi-sport event."

SSEN Transmission's involvement extends beyond sponsorship, with ongoing major infrastructure projects across the north of Scotland, including in Shetland, Orkney, and the Western Isles. These initiatives are crucial for unlocking Scotland's vast renewable energy potential, enhancing energy security, and supporting local jobs and community benefits, thereby contributing to a greener and more connected future for generations to come.
