Glasgow-based Carbon Futures has announced a new strategic partnership with Octopus Energy, having been appointed as a Certified Assessor for the energy provider's newly launched 'Zero Bills' building standard.
The 'Zero Bills' framework is designed to accelerate the decarbonisation of homes and sets a new global benchmark for sustainable housing construction. Homes that meet the 'Zero Bills' standard are energy-efficient properties equipped with solar panels, energy storage solutions, and smart technology, guaranteeing customers zero energy bills for a period of ten years.
Carbon Futures was formally recognised for its contribution to developing the new building standard at Octopus Energy's annual 'Zero Bills' Awards event, held in London on 14 May.
Andrew Money, Director at Carbon Futures, expressed his pride in the collaboration: "We are proud to have played an important role in supporting Octopus Energy to develop the assessment procedure and tools for the new Zero Bills building standard. Given our involvement in the delivery of social and affordable homes throughout Scotland and the UK, we believe this is a significant step forward in demonstrating what can be achieved to benefit those occupiers who are most in need of reduced household bills. We look forward to continued collaboration with Octopus Energy."
As a founding Certified Assessor, Carbon Futures will now be able to evaluate existing design specifications and advise clients on the necessary enhancements to achieve the 'Zero Bills' building standard, thereby unlocking the ten-year guarantee of zero home energy bills.
Jim Bennett, Zero Bills Scotland Director at Octopus Energy, welcomed the partnership: "We are delighted to have Carbon Futures on board as a Certified Assessor. With the New Build Heat Standard legislation in place, now is the perfect time to bring ‘Zero Bills’ to Scotland. This initiative not only eliminates energy bills but also offers homes equipped with cutting-edge green technology, ensuring sustainable, future-proof living for residents."
Octopus Energy has already accredited over 1,000 'Zero Bills' homes through partnerships with various prominent developers, spanning affordable and private rent, as well as private and shared ownership properties.
