Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) is inviting local residents and woodland users to share their views on a new long-term plan for the management of the Kilpatrick Hills woodlands, situated north-west of Glasgow.
The woodlands are a popular destination for recreation while also functioning as a working, timber-producing forest. The development of a new land management plan is part of FLS's standard 10-year review process, ensuring that management strategies continue to meet the organisation's objectives.
Over the next decade, the proposed plan includes a variety of management activities such as timber felling, replanting with new trees, restoration of open mire habitats, and new woodland creation. To facilitate these operations, some upgrades to the existing forest road network or the construction of new roads may also be necessary.
Toby Austin, Planning Forester for FLS, said: "Over the next 10 years we are proposing to undertake a variety of management activities which include felling, replanting, open mire restoration and woodland creation. Some upgrades to the existing forest road network or the construction of new roads will also be required to facilitate these operations."
Highlighting the importance of public feedback, Austin added: "We know how well-loved these woodlands are for recreation and that a lot of local people make regular use of them, so we’re really keen to hear comments and feedback on the plans. We’re inviting people to come along to the drop-in sessions, have a chat with us, find out more and ask questions. Anyone who can’t make these is welcome to provide feedback online."
Two drop-in public engagement events have been scheduled:
• Tuesday, 3rd June 2025: 4pm - 7pm at Old Kilpatrick Food Parcels Hub, Napier Hall, G60 5JH.
• Saturday, 7th June 2025: 12pm – 3pm at Edenmill Farmshop, Glasgow, G63 9AX.
FLS encourages anyone interested in the future management of the Kilpatrick Hills woodlands to attend these sessions or provide feedback through their online channels.
