A total of 125 new homes are planned for the second phase of Glasgow's Athletes' Village, following a decision by Glasgow City Council to vary the development agreement with the City Legacy consortium. This change will see Cruden build 67 homes for sale, while CCG will construct 58 homes for social rent.
The variation in the development agreement allows the City Legacy consortium, which delivered the first phase of the Athletes' Village, to sub-lease land to Cruden and CCG. This contractual adjustment will enable Cruden to access the necessary funding to facilitate the construction of the social rent homes alongside their own for-sale properties.
Construction on this next phase is anticipated to commence in late 2025 or early 2026, with completion expected towards the end of 2028. The new homes will offer a mix of tenure types, continuing the pattern set by the initial phase.
The City Legacy consortium, in partnership with Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government, developed the first phase of the Athletes' Village between 2010 and 2015. This comprised 700 homes, primarily houses and flats, which were initially used to accommodate athletes during the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games before being converted for domestic use.
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Housing, Development and Land Use at Glasgow City Council, welcomed the news: "This is great news for Dalmarnock and for the East End. Work can soon begin to build over 100 much-needed homes for both sale and social rent, building on the remarkable regeneration of this neighbourhood and transforming a site that has been vacant for some time."
This development marks another significant step in the ongoing regeneration of the Dalmarnock area, providing a substantial boost to the local housing supply.
