Members of the public are invited to attend a consultation feedback event to discuss the proposed infrastructure associated with a new underground electricity transmission cable between the Kinardochy and Errochty substations in Perthshire.
The event will take place on Monday, 28 April, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Kynachan Hall in Tummel Bridge. The Kinardochy – Errochty Underground Cable (UGC) project involves the installation of two 132kV UGCs, each approximately 4km in length, connecting the two substations.
This project is a component of SSEN Transmission's wider plans to upgrade the Beauly to Denny overhead line from 275kV to 400kV operation, a move aimed at supporting national clean power and energy security objectives.
The upcoming event is the second of two statutory pre-application consultations. Project staff will be available to discuss plans for the works associated with the UGC project, including proposals for both temporary and permanent access tracks, as well as temporary compounds required for the installation process. Attendees will also have the opportunity to review the project team's responses to feedback received during the initial consultation event held in November 2024.
Johnny Roach, SSEN Transmission's Development Project Manager, commented: "The proposed underground cable project is a key element of our plans to upgrade the Beauly to Denny overhead line to 400kV operation, and is one of several new connections required along the overhead line route.
"The cable installation itself, which forms part of permitted development, will see five-to six-metre-wide trenches dug within a corridor up to 50 metres running between Errochty and Kinardochy substations, with a boundary fence to separate the construction activities from livestock.
"Our planning requirements include permanent access routes that will be constructed within this corridor, as well as the need for infrastructure to enable the development such as temporary construction compounds and temporary bellmouth junctions. The project will include a comprehensive traffic management plan for the delivery of plant and materials to the site.
"Our face-to-face, drop-in consultation will give people the chance to view information about our proposed plans for the underground cable, while the project team will be on hand to answer any questions.
"We'd encourage anyone who is interested in the project to come along to our event taking place at Kynachan Hall on Monday 28 April, to speak to our staff and find out more about our plans."
