North Berwick High Street Improvement Works To Commence

Construction work is set to begin on a major improvement project for North Berwick High Street.

The project, approved by East Lothian Council in April 2023, will see improvements to road and footpath infrastructure to enhance safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.

Work will commence on Monday, 3rd February and is expected to be completed by Monday, 31st March.

"We apologise in advance for any disruption these works may cause," said John McMillan, Cabinet Member for Environment, Economic Development and Tourism. "Council staff have been working to keep businesses and residents aware of developments and respond to their concerns."

The project will include the introduction of lowered kerbs, dedicated areas for loading and unloading goods, and improved drop-off/pick-up points for blue badge holders

To facilitate the works, temporary traffic restrictions will be in place between the Quality Street and Market Place junctions from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. A signed diversion route will be in place during these hours.

These measures will be implemented under an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO), allowing the council to monitor their effectiveness and gather feedback from the public, businesses, and community groups.

Following the evaluation period, the council will consider making the changes permanent through a formal Traffic Regulation Order (TRO), which will include a public consultation process.

This project represents a significant step towards improving the safety and accessibility of North Berwick High Street for all users.
