East Lothian Council, in partnership with Sustrans, has launched a public consultation on a proposed new walking, wheeling, and cycling route between Prestonpans and Levenhall.
The 1.5-mile path would connect Cuthill Park in Prestonpans to Levenhall roundabout, providing a safer and more accessible option for active travellers.
AECOM has been commissioned to develop initial design drawings for the route, with funding provided by Sustrans. Public feedback from this consultation will be used to inform the final design.
This project is seen as a key connection to several existing routes, including Musselburgh Active Toun (MAT), the John Muir Way, and National Cycle Network Route 76.
The consultation is open until March 2nd and can be accessed via the project website or the East Lothian Council Citizen Space portal.
In addition to the online consultation, two drop-in information events will be held:
•Tuesday, February 18th: Musselburgh East Community Learning
Centre (4:45 PM to 7:45 PM)
• Monday, February 24th: Prestonpans Community Centre (3:45 PM to 6:45 PM)
Organisations interested in a one-on-one session with the design team can contact AECOM via email at [email address removed].
Councillor John McMillan, East Lothian Council Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment, Economic Development and Tourism, encouraged public participation: "We urge residents to take part in this consultation and share their views on the proposed route. Improved active travel routes will provide safer options for walking, wheeling, and cycling, promoting health and well-being while reducing carbon emissions."
This consultation comes alongside the recently completed footway resurfacing project on the B1348 near Prestonpans, and the upcoming repair and redevelopment work at the Bath House building in Prestongrange Heritage Park. These projects highlight the council's commitment to improving walking and cycling infrastructure in the area.
