South Ayrshire Council is on track to exceed its affordable housing target, with 176 new homes expected to be delivered. This surpasses the initial target set in October 2024 by 41 homes.
The Council's Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP) outlines the key priorities for affordable housing investment and details how Government targets will be achieved locally.
Several Council-led developments have contributed significantly to exceeding the target. The Mainholm site in Ayr, one of Scotland's largest affordable housing projects, is nearing completion and will provide 160 new homes, including six fully wheelchair-accessible units.
Other significant projects include Riverside Place in Ayr (75 homes) and the former St Ninians primary school site in Prestwick (42 homes), both of which will include wheelchair-accessible units.
In addition to Council-led developments, housing associations such as Ayrshire Housing, West of Scotland Housing Association, and Hannover Housing are also contributing to the delivery of affordable homes across South Ayrshire.
These projects form part of the Council's wider commitment to deliver 879 affordable homes by 2028.
Councillor Martin Kilbride, Buildings, Housing and Environment Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: "Exceeding our affordable housing target is a great achievement. The success is all the more remarkable given the reduction in our affordable housing supply program budget received from the Scottish Government.
"While our three biggest developments are in Ayr and Prestwick, we're working with partners to deliver affordable homes in more rural communities like Tarbolton and Monkton.
"We pride ourselves on our social housing programme which is high quality, sustainable and far reaching. We will continue to work with our partners to build housing which meets the needs of tenants."
