SSEN Transmission has successfully completed the initial phase of transporting two Super Grid Transformers to its Creag Dhubh substation project, marking a key milestone for the development.
The first transformer was safely moved from Clydebank to Stuckgowan earlier this week. Following an update to the original schedule, the next overnight transit to Dalmally is now set to take place on Tuesday 16 June. The heavy components will continue to move under a Police Scotland escort, with traffic management protocols active along sections of the A82 to protect road users and the delivery teams.
As part of these safety measures, a temporary overnight road closure will be implemented between Crianlarich and Tyndrum from 7pm on Tuesday 16 June until 6am on Wednesday 17 June. A specific section of the route at Inverherive, by the Herive Burn, will be shut to ensure the heavy load can cross safely.
Local diversion routes and signs will be established for motorists, and access for emergency services will be fully maintained throughout the period. The transformer will resume its journey to the Creag Dhubh site the following day. Delivery arrangements for the second transformer are currently being finalised, with a subsequent update to be provided in due course.
Lee Biddulph, SSEN Transmission's Project Manager for the Creag Dhubh substation project, stated: "Completing the first stage of our transformer movements from Clydebank to Stuckgowan marks an important milestone, as we prepare for the next overnight move to Dalmally on Tuesday 16 June following a change to our original schedule. Transporting components of this scale is complex and depends on weather conditions and close coordination with key partner organisations. We are working closely with our road traffic partners to keep disruption to a minimum and will provide further updates once plans for the second transformer delivery are confirmed. In the meantime, we are grateful for the continued patience and support of the public and our partner organisations as we deliver infrastructure that will strengthen the local network and support renewable energy growth across Argyll."
