Port of Aberdeen welcomed senior leaders from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and the Department for Transport (DfT) to discuss the port's pivotal role in driving sustainable economic growth and the energy transition.
The visit, hosted by Port of Aberdeen CEO Bob Sanguinetti and Chair Roy Buchan, included discussions with MCA Chair Lord Stevens, CEO Virginia McVea, Director of UK Technical Maritime Services Fraser Heasley, DfT Director General Dr. Rannia Leontaridi OBE FRSA, and Director of UK Customer Maritime Services Lars Lippuner.
Key topics included the opportunities and challenges associated with the development of next-generation offshore wind projects. Port of Aberdeen shared its ambitious plans to dredge parts of South Harbour to optimise the facility for floating offshore wind operations, showcasing its commitment to supporting the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources.
The delegation also toured the port's Marine Operations Centre, gaining insights into the critical work of the Harbour Master and Vessel Traffic Services team. The visit emphasised the importance of maintaining safe and efficient maritime operations, particularly as the port expands its role in supporting offshore wind and other energy-related activities.
A tour of South Harbour concluded the visit, providing the delegation with firsthand experience of the port's expanded infrastructure and its contribution to the diversification of the local economy. The port's progress in implementing its award-winning 2040 net zero strategy was also highlighted during the tour.
Bob Sanguinetti, CEO, Port of Aberdeen, said: "We were pleased to host key representatives from MCA and DfT, sharing insights into our current and upcoming projects that position the port as a key enabler for offshore wind development and decarbonisation efforts.
"As we continue to support our valued oil and gas customers and position Aberdeen for the upcoming INTOG and ScotWind offshore wind projects, collaboration with both government and industry will be essential to ensuring a successful energy transition."
