Bucksburn Swimming Pool has reopened following a £2.5m upgrade delivered by Morrison Construction on behalf of Aberdeen City Council, transforming the venue to improve accessibility and energy efficiency.

The community facility welcomed visitors back with Olympic swimmer Hannah Miley joining local residents, schools, community groups and representatives from Aberdeen City Council and Sport Aberdeen to mark the occasion.

The refurbishment featured wide-ranging interior improvements, a new roof, an enclosure for the air handling unit and significant enhancements to the building's mechanical and electrical systems. Together, these works extend the pool's lifespan while boosting sustainability and enhancing the experience for users.

Alongside construction, the project team prioritised social value through education, volunteering, environmental initiatives and charitable activity.

Pupils from Brimmond Primary School created artwork inspired by Our Environment, now showcased as a feature mural in the foyer, while Bucksburn Academy students produced pieces celebrating Aberdeen's landscapes, architecture and sporting heritage.

Through Morrison Construction's Roadshow and environmental workshops in local primary schools, young people were introduced to careers in construction and encouraged to build their understanding of sustainability. The social value programme delivered 959 volunteering hours, 85 apprenticeship weeks and support for local charities, youth organisations and community groups.
