Network Rail is undertaking a programme of works at Union Street, one of Glasgow's busiest roads.

Access to the road has been restricted to allow a crane to operate at the Caledonian Chambers building at Glasgow Central station.

A traffic management system will be in place with only the emergency services and buses permitted.

Conor Mclaughlin, Scheme Project Manager, Network Rail, said: "The crane will be accessing Caledonian Chambers to lift heavy plant and equipment to and from the upper floors of the building.

"Due to the size of the crane and the nature of the work, we need to close Union Street to most vehicular traffic. Buses and the emergency services will continue to be able to use Union Street throughout.

"We appreciate the patience and understanding of drivers during this time."

These preparatory works are expected to be completed today, Monday, 19 August.
