Stirling Council has given the go-ahead to transform a former school into the city's first aparthotel.

Developers hope to transform the former industrial school on Spittal Street into an aparthotel.

The site – C-listed Snowdon House in Spittal Street – was constructed in 1855 and was most recently used as a residential school for girls.

The application for a change of use from school to aparthotel, with a new, free-standing building to the rear to increase self-catering accommodation options, was granted subject to conditions.

The property owner, Kass Ventures Ltd, has been given conditions that require the new extension to be built with external materials in keeping with the character of the local conservation area.

The development also includes alterations for vehicle access, new parking and landscaping.

The Panel considered the application complied with the Stirling Local Development Plan 2018 and National Planning Framework 4 as the site is in a central location, suitable for tourism development.

It also ruled the new extension does not negatively impact on the character of the city centre conservation area or the city wall, above which it will sit.

The Planning and Regulation Panel received four letters on the application – two of which neither objected nor supported and two of which were supportive.
