Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has been awarded more than £85,000 for its Urgha Aire project in Harris from VisitScotland's Rural Tourism Infrastructure Fund (RTIF) on behalf of the Scottish Government.

The grant will be managed by the North Harris Trust on behalf of the Comhairle to develop and manage the essential infrastructure. The site will include the provision of a grey water disposal point and six new overnight bays with electric hookups all within walking distance of Tarbert. This will aim to encourage visiting vans away from the unofficial stopping spots that are emerging in and around the village and will provide a better experience for both the visitor and the local community.

Cllr Donald Crichton, Chair of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's Sustainable Development Committee, said: "We are delighted that the Urgha Aire project has been successful in this round of RTIF funding as it will enable the provision of a much-needed overnight electric hook-up area for motorhomes and campervans and therefore alleviating some parking and traffic issues in Tarbert."
