Online Consultation Launches For Aberdeen Street Improvements

An online consultaion has launched for people living or working near Ashgrove Road and Ashgrove Road West which could lead to street improvements for the area.

The next stage of Ashgrove Connects project, being delivered by Aberdeen City Council and paid by the North-east transport organisation Nestrans, comprises a consultation at Cornhill Library and online as well as a webinar and local drop-in sessions, which will help define priorities and shape how the project develops.

The Ashgrove Connects project is initially investigating what improvements could and should be made to the streets and is aimed at enabling people to choose a more active and sustainable lifestyle, in order to make the most of opportunities to complement the proposed infrastructure changes along the Berryden Corridor.

Depending on input from the community, plans could include changes to Ashgrove Road and Ashgrove Road West which give greater priority to people, enhance public space, improve access to shops and facilities, and improve active travel.

The project has been working with local people and stakeholders since March (2022) to build an understanding of how the streets and public spaces are perceived and used locally.

The information gathered has guided the development of initial designs ideas which could see a reduction in the speed of traffic, improved crossings, better access to greenspace, a more enjoyable environment to walk through, and improved conditions for people cycling along the road.

Local residents and people who travel through or work in the area are being asked to view and give feedback on the initial designs. Consultation activities with a local primary school and care home are also being organised. The feedback received will help to steer the development of a preferred design during the next stage of the project.

Initial ideas are being presented for the areas near to Ashgrove Road West’s junctions with North Anderson Drive, Foresterhill Road, Cornhill Road and Westburn Drive. Initial ideas are being presented for the areas near to Ashgrove Road West’s junctions with North Anderson Drive, Foresterhill Road, Cornhill Road and Westburn Drive. A webinar is being held on Tuesday 28 June, from 7pm to 8pm for anyone wanting to find out more information about the Ashgrove Connects project. There are also drop-in sessions on Tuesday 5 July at Cairncry Community Centre on Foresterhill Road from 10am to 1pm and at Westburn Outdoor Centre in Westburn Park from 4pm to 7pm.
