BEAR Scotland has announced road surface and drainage improvement works on the A96 at the eastbound approach to Broomhill Roundabout.
The £360,000 investment from Transport Scotland will address defects in the road surface on the A96 at Broomhill Roundabout eastbound creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists. The scheme will also see the replacement of the verge side filter drain material to improve the removal of surface water from the carriageway.
The project is expected to take place over two weeks. The improvements will be carried out between 7pm and 6am each night, with works due to be completed by 6am on Friday 4 March, subject to weather conditions.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, The following traffic management will be in place:
• Phase One– Sunday 20 February to Thursday 24 February (five nights)
Phase One of the works will be focused on the surfacing between Tavelty on slip and Kintore off slip. During the night-time surfacing operations to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a nearside lane closure and 10mph convoy system will be in operation during working hours. The daytime drainage operations will take place under a nearside lane closure.
• Phase Two – Tuesday 1 March to Thursday 3 March (three nights)
Phase 2 of the works will be focused on the surfacing between the Kintore off slip and the B994 Overbridge. During the night-time surfacing operations to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a nearside lane closure and 10mph convoy system will be in operation during working hours. In addition, the Kintore off-slip will also be closed continuously. A signed diversion will be in place via Broomhill Roundabout, the B987 and onto the B977. The daytime drainage operations will take place under a nearside lane closure.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the surfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland's North East Unit Representative, said: "This surfacing and drainage project near Broomhill Roundabout has been designed to improve the general condition and safety of this section of the A96 for motorists.
"The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of both roadworkers and motorists. Regrettably there will be some delays, but our teams will do all they can to complete the scheme as safely and quickly as possible.
"We thank motorists for the patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A96. We encourage them to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information and allow some extra time to reach their destination."
Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
