A.C. Whyte has welcomed their 4th year Skills Academy, Akademos to site in Port Glasgow and Greenock, where they are delivering external wall insulation works in partnership with Riverclyde Homes.
The Akademos will train alongside some of our most experienced operatives as well as our newly appointed, in-house Operative Trainer, Ramos Toma.
A Roughcaster to trade, Ramos has worked in the construction industry for over 10 years and has a wealth of experience training and upskilling roughcasting operatives. Ramos will work directly with the Akademos to support their progression and help guide them whilst they complete their on site placements, as they work towards graduating to full time employment with A.C. Whyte.
A.C. Whyte have also welcomed Tommy Campbell to their team. Tommy has 25+ years' experience within the Education sector and comes from a Construction background. Tommy was previously Head of Construction and Building Services for West College Scotland and will be our primary liaison between A.C. Whyte and our College network, as we look to further strengthen and expand our A.C. Whyte Skills Academy across additional local authority areas.
Jennifer Phin, Managing Director of A.C. Whyte said: "Our Skills Academy operates out of West College in Greenock and this partnership with Riverclyde Homes is allowing the practical training to take place in the Inverclyde area. The Akademos are getting real, on site experience whilst transforming their local communities. This fully supports our just transition to net zero, where our Akademos will benefit as we create the 20 minute neighbourhood, which establishes multiple benefits such as local training, local jobs, with a view of delivering local decarbonisation and housing strategy requirements."
