BEAR Scotland Announce Bridge Works On M80

Transport Scotland's operating company BEAR Scotland are set to carry out a series of expansion joint replacement works on two bridges on the M80.

The works, between Junctions 8 and 9, will be carried out over 20 nights during February and March.

Work will take place on up to three midweek nights each week, beginning on the night of Wednesday 2 February and concluding on the night of Thursday 31 March.

Carriageway closures will be in place between 20:00 and 06:00 on the following nights:

Northbound carriageway:

• 02/02/22 – 04/02/22

• 09/02/22 – 11/02/22

• 16/02/22 – 18/02/22

Southbound carriageway:

• 02/03/22 – 04/03/22

• 23/03/22 – 25/03/22

• 31/03/22

During northbound carriageway closures, traffic will be diverted via M80 Junction 8 Bankhead onto the M876 northbound, before turning southbound at M876 Junction 3 Bowtrees and joining the M9 westbound at Junction 7 Kinnaird House, to rejoin the M80 at Junction 9 Pirnhall.

During southbound carriageway closures, traffic will be diverted via the M9 from Junction 9 Pirnhall, before joining the M876 northbound from M9 Junction 7 Kinnaird House and returning southbound from M876 Junction 3 Bowtrees to rejoin the M80 at Junction 8 Bankhead.

Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland's South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: "It is essential for safety that we close the M80 during these works, however we've arranged for work to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

"We are also co-ordinating these works with the nearby bearing replacement works on Hill Bridge at M9 Junction 8, to ensure that we are not closing two motorways on the same evenings.

"We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding."
