Dundee City Council has secured funding to improve the city's recycling efforts from the Scottish government's Recycling Improvement Fund administered by Zero Waste Scotland.

The Government has announced that funding has been awarded to the local authority for the purchase of IT route optimisation software to allow for more efficient waste collections in the city and 26 in-cab tablets to allow crews to utilise the technology.

Neighbourhood Services Convener Councillor Anne Rendall said: "This is very good news. The introduction of the software in our fleet will improve the quality and quantity of the recycling materials we collect, as real-time reporting will inform collection crews of contamination across bins.

"In addition to this, the more efficient routing will allow for carbon savings through a reduction in mileage travelled as well as the ability to recover more waste for recycling purposes.

"Overall, the implementation of the new software is a stated action in our Waste & Recycling Action Plan & Strategy 2020-2025 and will help us towards the city's waste and recycling targets & Scotland's net-zero carbon commitment."

The total grant funding of £87,962 has been allocated for route optimisation software and in-cab units.
