South Lanarkshire Council has announced the reopening of the Cleghorn Bridge in Clydesdale following the completion of extensive repair and strengthening works.

Traffic signal equipment was also upgraded to reduce the likelihood of future closures at this location.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council's Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor John Anderson, said: "I am sure our rural communities will be delighted that the bridge is now reopen and will appreciate the work that has gone into this project.

"We fully understand the inconvenience and disruption projects and closures like this have on communities and I would like to thank everyone for their patience while the works have been taking place."

The bridge suffered significant and sudden further deterioration since it initially closed in January.

This led to an increase in the scope, scale and complexity of the repair, strengthening and rebuilding work required at the bridge.
