Taylor Wimpey West Scotland Acquire Former Garnqueen Farm Site

Construction News Image
A new housing development is set to get underway as Taylor Wimpey West Scotland confirm the acquisition of the former Garnqueen Farm in Glenboig.

Planning consent was secured in September 2020 from North Lanarkshire Council, and this impressive development forms part of the Gartcosh and Glenboig Community Growth area. Pre-construction works have also started this week to prepare the land for construction of new homes later this year.

The development, which has been named Meadowside following a recent competition with pupils of nearby Glenboig Primary School, will deliver an impressive choice of two, three and four bedroom homes to provide a range of options for first time buyers and growing families.

Additionally, as part of the masterplan vision of the Gartcosh and Glenboig Community Growth Area, Meadowside has been designed to integrate with the extension of the local nature reserve. It will also provide a comprehensive network of footpath connections to the wider local area as well as a central area of open space.

As part of Taylor Wimpey's Section 75 agreement with North Lanarkshire Council, Meadowside will contribute towards a range of community benefits, which will include around £4 million towards education, road upgrades and the provision of play facilities.

Meadowside in Glenboig will also complement Taylor Wimpey's other developments in North Lanarkshire, including Torrance Place in Holytown where construction work is well underway, signalling a continued and significant investment across the local area by the housebuilder.

Caroline Proctor, Land and Planning Director at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland said: "We are so pleased to have acquired this land at the former Garnqueen Farm in the village of Glenboig. This latest milestone for this development cements our commitment to bringing new homes to this thriving community.

"As well as acquiring the land, our pre-construction works are now underway, which are likely to take around four months before we start to build our new homes and aim to release these for sale early next year."
