Social Bite Propose Dundee Site For Recovery Village Development

Construction News Image
Social Bite has revealed that a former bowling green in Mill O'Mains has been chosen as the proposed site for the Bill Sword Social Bite Recovery Village in Dundee. The location was selected for its serene green space and excellent connectivity to the local community and transport links, aligning with the Village's aim of community-focused recovery.

The proposed facility, backed by a £1.5 million pledge from The WM Sword Charitable Trust and an additional £100,000 from the Insights Foundation, will provide a highly supported residential community for vulnerable people managing addiction. It will feature 10 single-occupancy modern "nest houses" and a 10-bed shared accommodation facility, alongside a community hub for support, wellbeing activities, and family time.

Josh Littlejohn MBE, founder of Social Bite, commented: "It is fantastic to be able to share more details of what will be an incredible facility for Dundee. Our aim is to build a facility that will help people who have begun their journey towards recovery by giving them a supportive and safe place to live with expert support."

The Dundee project expands on the success of Social Bite's Edinburgh village, which has supported over 100 people to date. The new facility will primarily serve Dundee residents, with any spare capacity available to other Scottish local authorities.

A community consultation process is currently underway ahead of submitting a planning application in the coming months. Local recovery organisations and individuals with lived experience of addiction have contributed to the village's design, which will operate as a therapeutic community model with on-site staff. Dundee has experienced a significant increase in drug-related deaths, with 46 recorded in 2023, and a high rate of drug misuse deaths over the last five years.

Social Bite is holding community drop-in sessions at the Finmill Centre on Thursday, 10 July 2025, at 09:00 and Wednesday, 16 July 2025, at 13:00.
