Scottish Gas Networks (SGN) has confirmed that essential upgrades to the gas network on the A199 in Haddington are set to commence on Tuesday, 15 July 2025. This ten-week project aims to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply for nearby homes and businesses.
To facilitate the work safely, temporary traffic lights will be installed at the Vert Roundabout, located between Haldane Avenue and the A199, and will remain in place for the duration of the project. Additionally, Aberlady Road will be closed at its junction with the A199, with a local diversion route signposted for motorists. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout the works.
An SGN spokesperson acknowledged the potential for disruption, stating: "We understand this is a busy route and that roadworks can be frustrating. We'll be working as quickly as we can to complete our work and fully re-open the road."
East Lothian Council confirmed their coordination with SGN on these essential works. A council spokesperson said: "The council have co-ordinated these essential works with SGN to ensure these are carried out efficiently and safely while minimising the disruption to road users as best we can."
