Aberdeenshire Council have announced that essential road repairs and drainage improvements will begin on the A97 Logie Coldstone to Tillypronie from Monday 30 November for two weeks.

They are part of the approved annual road maintenance programme for the Marr area and will allow us to further improve the road conditions at this location.

Works will include edge strengthening, carriageway resurfacing and drainage improvements with additional gullies, filter drainage and carrier pipes being installed.

Engineers anticipate completion in less than the allocated two weeks, however as resurfacing works are very much reliant on reasonable weather conditions, the decision has been taken to promote a formal two-week road closure period.

A diversion route will run via the A97 – A944 – A980 – B9119 – A97 and vehicular access for residents within the closure will be maintained. Motorists should adhere to all temporary site warning signs including speed limits and to follow the road closures diversion signage.

The council's Head of Roads, Landscape and Waste Services, Philip McKay, explained: "The decision to close the road during these works is absolutely essential to ensure the safety of all road users and to protect the workforce on site.

"We appreciate that the signed diversion route will be lengthy and the proposed closure adds to journey times, but we will do everything possible to ensure that the work is carried out in the shortest possible timescale."
