Greenock Road Improvement Works Underway

Inverclyde Council have begun road improvement works at Weir Street in Greenock.

The £85,000 project is being funded by the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) and will see the junction at Gibshill Road be widened. The works are expected to last 8 weeks.

Councillor Michael McCormick, Convener of Inverclyde Council's Environment & Regeneration Committee, said: "The junction at Weir Street and Gibshill Road includes a very tight bend which is difficult for the buses used on this route to negotiate.

"We appreciate that this will cause some disruption, especially for people who use the 545 bus service. A temporary 545 shuttle bus will be in place between Weir Street and Bawhirley Road while Weir Street is shut. In the long term widening the junction will improve road safety and the service that is provided for bus users."

Councillor David Wilson, Vice-Chair of SPT, said "SPT is working closely with Inverclyde Council to improve the area's infrastructure. This project, and the recently completed Chapelton Bridge road widening scheme, improve public transport for local people and address major issues with the road layout.

"This is another example of how the people of Inverclyde are continuing to benefit from substantial investment by SPT."
