SSEN Transmission has posted its strongest stakeholder engagement result to date, scoring 97% in the latest independent review carried out by AccountAbility using its AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard. The company has retained a top rating for a fifth year in a row.
The result extends a run of year-on-year improvement from last year's 95% and confirms the company's position in the highest Advanced stage of AccountAbility's Stakeholder Engagement Maturity Ladder. SSEN Transmission said the outcome reflects the embedding of stakeholder insight across the organisation as it delivers an ambitious investment programme to support the UK's energy security and clean power goals.
AccountAbility's AA1000 health check provides a rigorous, independent assessment of engagement practices and processes, incorporating direct stakeholder feedback and holding organisations to high standards of accountability, responsiveness and transparency.
The company emphasised that the assessment examines how organisations plan, deliver and continually improve their engagement processes, rather than measuring wider public sentiment or opinions on specific projects.
Christianna Logan, SSEN Transmission's Director of Customers and Stakeholders, said: "Achieving a 97% stakeholder engagement score and maintaining a top rating for a fifth consecutive year is another outstanding result, and one we are extremely proud of.
"This recognition reflects the consistent effort across our business to put stakeholders at the heart of what we do - listening carefully, engaging openly, and consistently taking feedback onboard.
"Independent recognition at this level demonstrates the strength of our engagement approach as we deliver critical infrastructure and economic opportunity across the north of Scotland.
"We'll work hard to maintain this high standard by continuing to invest in meaningful engagement and delivering continuous improvement in our engagement as our investment programme continues."
Daniel Metzger, Director of Advisory Services at AccountAbility shared: "Score increases at these upper echelons of the maturity ladder are very difficult to achieve, so SSEN Transmission's improvements across several pillars truly reflect the commitment and diligence that you and the team have brought to this work."
SSEN Transmission added that its stakeholder engagement continues to expand as it progresses a £29bn programme of upgrades to the electricity transmission network in the north of Scotland, with a focus on building trust, strengthening collaboration and ensuring stakeholders play a meaningful role in shaping the region's future network.
