Transport Scotland is reminding A9 road users to drive with care on approach to the works area between Luncarty and Pass of Birnam as traffic restrictions continue following the festive holidays.

Balfour Beatty, the contractor for the A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam project has scheduled the final phase of enabling works to begin on 14 January 2019, for approximately three weeks.

These enabling works will facilitate the completion of temporary site accesses along the route and prepare for the installation of traffic management and barriers which are required for the main construction works beginning in earnest in early February.

To keep disruption to a minimum, the majority of these works will take place overnight between 1930hrs and 0600hrs (Monday – Saturday only) weather permitting. Traffic management restrictions will include temporary two-way traffic lights, with a temporary speed restriction of 30mph through the works.

In addition, traffic management is required to allow works to extend two laybys on the A9 north and south of the main construction site area to accommodate wide loads. The laybys are located within the dualled sections of the A9 – northbound on approach to Inveralmond roundabout and southbound at Pass of Birnam.

As a result, a short section of one lane will be closed during the day, off-peak, between 9:30am and 3:30pm, with a 50mph speed restriction in place for approximately two weeks from 21 January 2019.

Transport Scotland Project Manager, Gemma Montrose said: "These further enabling works will take place using a similar traffic management layout to that which has been in operation since late November. Our contractor has consulted with stakeholders including BEAR, Police Scotland and Perth & Kinross Council to finalise its plans for the traffic management and road users should experience no additional disruption during this period.

"We would like to take the opportunity to thank road users and the local communities for their patience whilst we undertake these important works which will enable our contractor to safely begin mainline construction, planned for early February 2019."

Details of future traffic management required to allow the main works to progress will be published this month, January 2019.

Balfour Beatty has a dedicated Community Liaison Team who will be available for the duration of the construction works to answer any questions regarding the works.
