Over 2,000 North Lanarkshire Homes To Be Delivered Over Five Years

Over 2,000 new affordable homes are to be built in North Lanarkshire over the next five years, under the council's Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP).

North Lanarkshire Council submitted its SHIP to the Scottish government after the approval of additional housing projects.

The SHIP for 2019-20/2023-24 aims to deliver 2,357 new affordable homes, regenerating and investing in communities and bringing benefits to the local economy.

The plans will be delivered by the council and housing associations, supported by potential funding of £135 million from the Scottish Government.

The proposed projects included within the SHIP 2019/20-2023/24, include over 1,200 new council homes planned for development.

The SHIP supports the delivery of the council's Local Housing strategy which sets out the key priorities of:

• Promoting the supply of good quality affordable housing across all tenures;

• Contributing to the regeneration and sustainability of our communities, including town centres;

• Providing appropriate housing support and helping to prevent homelessness;

• Ensuring there is a range of housing and support in place to meet the needs of older people and people with specific needs;

• Tackling fuel poverty and helping to meet the Climate Change target, and

• Improving housing stock of all tenures.

Councillor Allan Graham, Convener of Enterprise and Housing said: "By developing new affordable housing we're contributing to reducing inequalities through the provision of good quality, energy efficient and accessible homes that meet the needs of people living in our local communities.

"It supports our Business Plan priority of Improving Economic Outcomes and Opportunities by supporting the provision of access to high quality housing.

"By producing a long term plan we'll realise our vision to help people to achieve their potential, and be safe, healthy, included and supported in our communities."
