A number of companies have turned out in full force for the Hawick Flood Protection Scheme information event on Wednesday, 29 August.

Approximately 74 companies attended the event organised by the contractors and suppliers, where they found out more details about the scheme.

Executive Member for Roads and Infrastructure, Councillor Gordon Edgar, said: "We were delighted with the turnout at the information event in the Town Hall, which saw 74 companies speak to our project team about getting involved in the Hawick Flood Protection Scheme.

"Companies – especially those who could not attend Wednesday's information day - can now register their interest in becoming involved in the scheme at www.hawickfloodscheme.com."

The Hawick Flood Protection Scheme will deliver protection from a one in 75 flood event to over 900 residential and commercial properties at risk along the River Teviot and Slitrig Water.

The scheme will also deliver multiple benefits to the town of Hawick, maximising the cultural, heritage, educational, environmental, energy and health opportunities that a major civil engineering project can deliver in partnership with the community and external organisations.

The main contract will start in summer 2019 and is due to be completed in 2022.
