Nevis has hosted several educational workshops on Golden Eagle conservation as part of the Habitat Management Plan (HMP) at Corriegarth Windfarm.

The company was appointed to the HMP project, which included contribution to the Regional Golden Eagle Conservation Management Plan (RECMP) prepared by SSE for the neighbouring Dunmaglass Windfarm.

The RECMP is based on enhancing knowledge, conservation and understanding of the Golden Eagle in the Central Highlands Natural Heritage Zone (NHZ 10) and surrounding areas of Scotland.

As part of its contribution, Nevis has delivered educational workshops in schools to inspire young children to take an interest in Golden Eagles and their habitat.

Principal Consultant Stephanie Kiel and Environmental Manager Jo Wells delivered the interactive workshops, which were centred around:

• Understanding of what a bird actually is;

• Discussing the Golden Eagle - how big is it, what does it eat, how much does it weigh, how do their calls sound?;

• What other birds of prey are in Scotland, how do you identify the Golden Eagle?;

• Where do Eagles live - analysing maps of the local area with real eagle flight lines;

• How we gather this information- an understanding of GPS & satellites.

The workshops took place in schools within the Great Glen area as part of Greencoat's community engagement work.
