Work Starts On Oban Flood Management Study

Construction News Image
Work has started on a flood management study for Oban in Argyll and Bute.

Residents are being asked for their views and experiences of flooding as the need for a study has been identified in the council's Local Flood Risk Management Plan.

Overall, the probe will consider river, rainfall and coastal flooding in Oban, and in particular those areas known to be sensitive to flood risk, as well as including consideration of the effects from current climate change predictions.

Once finished, the study will be considered by SEPA in a national context whereby potential flood risk management schemes in Scotland are prioritised for the next round of government funding, which is due to cover the period between 2022 and 2028.

An open consultation session will take place in the Rockfield Centre, Oban, from 1pm – 8pm on Wednesday, 27 June.

Cllr Roddy McCuish said: "This is an opportunity for local people to have their say on what they believe the issues are, and to tell us about their experiences with flooding.

"The views of our residents will really help to shape future flood prevention plans, so their feedback is really important.

"We are committed to helping our communities and to ensuring that we explore practical, cost effective solutions."
