Residents in Aberdeen who live in properties vulnerable to flooding are being encouraged to apply for grant funding to help protect their homes.

Members of the city council's Communities, Housing and Infrastructure committee have agreed people living in vulnerable properties will be able to apply for a grant of up to a maximum of 50% of the installation cost, capped to £2,500 per property.

The move will assist around 60 vulnerable properties during each year of the scheme – and a total of 300 over the five year period of the scheme.

City Council flooding spokesperson, Councillor Jennifer Stewart, said: "Everyone can play their part in looking after their own property as well as their community.

"I have seen the impact of flooding around the city – at places including Queen's Cross, Cults, Westburn, and South Deeside Road – and it is a sad situation for residents and businesses alike especially when it happens at times such as Christmas Eve.

"We would encourage residents to apply to the scheme as the more they can do to protect their properties, the better."
